Travel Like A Local: Nashville Neighborhood The Gulch
Words by Ashley Locke

There are few Nashville neighborhoods that have exploded like The Gulch. Though the neighborhood is small, it packs a punch. Shopping, restaurants, nightlife—The Gulch has it all, and all within walking distance. Loved by locals and tourists alike, it’s a must-visit when you’re in the city.

If you ask any local about Nashville’s best rooftop bars, L.A. Jackson will always be on the list. The iconic spot in The Gulch has delicious handcrafted cocktails and unbeatable views of downtown—but it’s not just locals who love it. The bar’s home is the Thompson Hotel, a luxury hotel that’s a draw for tourists and business travelers alike.

The Thompson is right in the middle of The Gulch, steps away from all the urban neighborhood has to offer. It’s also just a few minutes from downtown Nashville, Bridgestone Arena, and Nissan Stadium. The convenient location means you can spend more of your trip doing things you want to do and less time driving.

The hotel itself is a beautiful space to call your home-away-from-home. The floor to ceiling windows provide the best natural light while you’re getting ready for a night out. The hardwood floors and thoughtfully designed mid-century modern rooms will make you never want to leave.

Planning a visit? Here’s our guide to The Gulch!

Eat

You don’t have to travel far for breakfast. Local coffee shop Killebrew is located right by the lobby of The Thompson. Grab a pastry if you’re looking for something quick, or sit down with a breakfast sandwich on a slower morning.

For lunch, Otaku Ramen is a hot spot. The Tennessee Tonkatsu is a fan favorite, but any of the options will delight you. Emmy Squared is a drool-worthy Detroit-style pizza shop, but they’re also known to have the best burger in town. If salty and savory isn’t your style, Milk & Honey can take care of your cravings. Soups, salads, and other items treat your tastebuds at this all day cafe.

Head back to The Thompson for dinner. Their in-house restaurant, Marsh House, combines sustainable seafood and southern cuisine for a culinary experience like no other. Plus, the wine list is unmatched!
