Last-Minute Valentine's Getaway
From the Content Director's Journal
I produce my best work in new environments. New sights and surroundings stimulate my creativity, sparking new perspectives and possibilities. When I'm in need a creative jolt, I often plug in my headhones, grab my laptop, and plant myself in the corner of a library or coffee shop that has big windows. But sometimes, I need to shake up my environment. A getaway is the best kind of scenery change, right?!
So it was a real treat for me to have recently had the opportunity to visit midtown's Loews Atlanta. I love the city. Our team was in Georgia for an editorial round table with Shelly Brown, one of our upcoming guest editors. I stuck around the city to work on an upcoming project (super excited to share with y'all!) and also to check out the outside-the-box Burger Bar at the Loews Saltwood Restaurant (must-try!). With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I thought I'd share some highlights from our trip and recommend Loews for your Valentine's escape! Enjoy : )
The Loews' Saltwood Burger Bar was definitely a favorite from our trip. It's not your typical restaurant. You dine where the magic happens -- in the kitchen. Brainchild of Executive Chef Olivier Guapin, the newly launched Burger Bar was created to offer guests a fun interactive experience. "We're going to cook. We're going to chat," says Chef Guapin cheerfully. "You’re part of the environment. It’s different than being in the restaurant." A different experience indeed, we felt like insiders. It was very 'behind the scenes'.
For our visit, Chef Jeremy Williamson took great care of us and guided us to make some delicious choices. I went with his favorite, the Southerner (BBQ pulled pork, fried onion, and pimento cheese). It was amazing! He warned me beforehand that it would be messy. It was - in the best way, of course! And no one criticized me for eating it with a fork and knife ; ). My photographer, Alyssa, chose the Nashville, a Saltwood favorite (hot chicken, coleslaw, and B&B pickle). The most popular menu item is the Saltwood Burger, decked with goat cheese, house cured bacon, and a fried egg. Chef Guapin's recommendation? The Ole Smokey (14hr smoked beef brisket, pickled red cabbage, and BBQ sauce). "The brisket is to-die-for," he says.
